Tuesday, July 31st, 2012, posted by Matt

This past week was the Chinajoy games expo in Shanghai, China. BigWorld came out in full force, demonstrating our tech at the expo as well as throwing a steampunk-themed party for our closest industry friends. The party featured steampunk attire, a massage team, magicians, music, and general neo-victorian frivolity.

BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes Preview

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012, posted by Kris
An article was recently written on incgamers.com delving into the main gameplay mode “Superiority” in BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes.
Simply put, they describe the WoWP gameplay as “the battle last[ing] until all enemy aircraft are destroyed.” But that isn’t all there is to it, as “WoWP is not just about nimble dog-fights in the sky, it’s also about intercepting bombers and heavy fighters who are intent on destroying your base structures.” So while on the surface it might just look like a deathmatch to see who lasts the longest, there is actually quite a bit more to it than that.
An interesting point made in this article is in regards to controlling the warplanes in the game. Wargaming.net had previously said that the controls for the aircrafts would be much more akin to arcade shooters than flight sims, but there still seems to be a fairly steep learning curve in controlling these beasts.
“As early as my first mission I noticed players smashing into the ground before the enemy were even spotted, I even asked for advice only to be told ‘just don’t hit the deck’.”
Incgamers.com explains the phenomena by saying that basic plane flight is an unfamiliar skill to most players, whereas with World of Tanks, people generally knew how a car worked so they adapted it to tanks.
This controlling learning curve will prove to be a pretty big measure of skill in WoWP, as those with more experience will fly better. As you start to get the hang of it though, it’ll be hard to stop.
“…like the best examples of ‘just one more turn gaming’, WoWP can certainly suck your time.”
See you in the sky!
