If you’re getting a case of deja vu while reading this, it might be because Wargaming.net just announced a similar platform at this year’s E3 (video). Like Ignite, it will allow you to keep all of Wargaming.net’s BigWorld-Powered titles under the same account and launch them from a central location. Our extensive blog post on the announcement can be seen here.

Around the time of this announcement there was some discussion in the World of Tanks and Warplanes forums about how if this “Universal Game Platform” will become a standard among MMO developers. Considering these two leading MMO companies are backing this kind of unified game system for their titles, there is a pretty big chance that this will become common practice in the industry.

Wargaming.net’s Universal Game Platform has not yet been released, but Aeria’s Ignite is up and ready for you to try out. Just download it here and play some Realm of the Titans!

A Look at BigWorld-Powered Realm of the Titans’ “Titan’s Eye” Map

Sunday, May 13th, 2012, posted by Kris

from the Titans desk

A while back, we shared a post regarding the announcement of BigWorld-Powered Realm of the Titans‘ “Titan’s Eye” map. Here, I’m going to talk about the features of this unique map a little more in detail.

The first aspect that breaks it from the generic DotA map mold is that there are only two lanes. With it being a 5v5 map, having only two lanes will breed a lot more chaos than from a traditional three lane map.

By having a more limited number of lanes, there will be a higher opportunity for battles, and in-turn, more opportunity for death. Aeria knows this, so they are giving the map an alternate win condition. While you can still push to the enemies’ base and destroy their “tower” to win, on this map getting to 66 kills will also give your team the winner’s spot.

Another one of the most important aspects of this map is the new Rune Altar system implemented in it. Throughout the map you will come across “Rune Altar” structures, and by clicking on them they will yield you one of many enhancements. Each enhancement has a specific color, with the list detailed below.

  • Orange – increases magic damage
  • Purple – 500 experience
  • Blue – double physical damage
  • Red – haste
  • Green – mana/health regeneration increase
  • Yellow – 350 gold

This is a fresh take on the commonly-trite DotA formula, and we’re glad to be behind it.

Realm of Titans Professional Battles Live Stream, End of Closed Beta

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011, posted by Matt

from the thunderdome desk

BigWorld-powered Realm of the Titans is coming to the end of its closed beta period, after which publisher Aeria Games will be lining everything up for open beta. No word officially on when we’ll all be able to jump in and DotA our brains out in free-to-play glory, but hopefully soon.

To celebrate its recent entry into closed beta, Aeria partnered up with MOBACast to stream competitions between professional DotA players. If you’re lost, DotA = Defense of the Ancients, the most popular Warcraft III custom map series of all time, and certainly one of the most popular and noteworthy independent game mods of all time.

You can watch the pro DotA head-to-head matches, streamed earlier this week, here.

Keep an ear to the ground for more of these streaming competitions, most likely coming toward the end of this week, or early next week.
