from the steel desk

Results are in for the 2nd annual BigWorld-Powered World of Tanks Ural Steel Championship. The Ural Steel tournament was an event for all of the best World of Tanks teams to compete for the top prize. Details on the tournament can be seen in our previous post on the matter.

The prize pools for the Ural Steel championship were as follows:

  • 1st place: $35,000 + additional prizes
  • 2nd place: $21,000 + additional prizes
  • 3rd place: $14,000 + additional prizes

First place ended up going to “The RED: Rush Unity”, second to “The RED -Z GRA”, and third “Virtus.Pro Aces”.

These teams are probably enjoying their prize money by now, but hopefully they don’t get too carried away and forget to start practicing for next year’s tournament.

A detailed account on the final games can be seen towards the bottom of Ural Steel’s official page, as well as video streams of the games and interviews with the players.

BigWorld-Powered World of Battleships Changes Name to World of Warships

Monday, August 6th, 2012, posted by Kris

from the warship desk

Wargaming.net has officially changed the name of their upcoming BigWorld-Powered naval MMO from World of Battleships to World of Warships.

This name change is welcomed with a new website for the game under it’s new handle – worldofwarships.com.

The change makes the game fit more seamlessly into their “World of War” trilogy, which also includes World of Tanks and World of Warships.

“The MMO war series—World of Tanks, World of Warplanes and World of Warships—will soon unite to create the ultimate gaming universe gathering millions of players into a single community of war gamers. Common economics will allow the transfer of resources between all three games. A single global map will gather tankmen, pilots and mariners under a common tussle for world domination.”

Still no word on if a name change of World of Tanks to World of Wartanks is in order…
