What’s interesting to look at is how has been able to adapt the World of Tanks interface and formula to the Warplanes world.

Japanese Tech Tree in BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes

from the warplane desk just recently released a new plethora of content for the Japanese aircraft in the upcoming BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes.

Among this new content is the Japanese Tech Tree for the game, showing the aircraft tier progressions.

“The first tier plane of the Japanese World of Warplanes tree will be a light fighter, the Nakajima Type 91.  It’s followed by nine naval fighters from the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service.  The legendary A6M2 Zero is represented, as well as an unusually designed fast interceptor, the Mitsubishi J4M1 Senden, and three types of Kyushu J7W fighters.”

Also added were new renders of Japanese planes, as well as some screenshots of them in action.

Gamescom Developer Q&A for BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes

An official developer Q&A interview for BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes recently surfaced online, and shows a lot of interesting information regarding the upcoming game.

Most of the questions were actually asked by World of Warplanes fans in a live chat with the devs, so expect answers to some of the questions that might have been brewing in the back of your mind. Among them are discussions about in-game physics, open beta release, clan wars, and much more.

WCG Registration for BigWorld-Powered World of Tanks Closing Tonight

The annual World Cyber Games (WCG) is the world’s biggest competitive gaming festival celebrated, hosting players from six continents competing against each other. This year, they’ve added BigWorld-Powered World of Tanks to their lineup of competitive video games.

The US national qualifiers are currently ongoing, and registration for the event closes tonight. If you’re a US player itching to get into some competitive World of Tanks playing, then be sure and register today.

“The qualifiers are set to take place throughout the months of August and September for qualification directly into the US National Finals. These online tournaments will qualify winning players to participate in the US National Finals event, set to take place in early October (tentative date).”

Winners of the National Finals will go on to represent the US at the 2012 WCG Grand Finals, which will be held on November 29 – December 2 in China.

Gameplay Preview for BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes

from the warplanes desk recently got their hands on a press account for BigWorld-Powered World of Warplanes, and were happy to share the experience.

Concerning the barrier of entry to the game, they brought up how simple and easy learning the controls are, but mastering flight can prove to be difficult. While it might have seemed daunting at first, once the reviewer got a hang of it the enjoyment came out naturally.

“There were several occasions where I found myself at the edge of my seat, gritting my teeth and trying to both outmaneuver and outplay the other pilots.”

A lot like popular online multi-player FPS games, there is a high level of skill that can be honed-in for hardcore players, while the core mechanics are still fun enough for casuals to enjoy.

The previewer brings up two methods of winning in the aerial battles – by destroying all enemy planes in the sky, or through racking up enough points from destroying enemy resources. The three classes of planes factor heavily into how you tactically want to win the battle.

“Bombers are designed to take out land targets; Fighters are geared towards taking down other planes; and Heavy Fighters are a mishmash of the other two classes. Each class has its ups and downs: Heavy Fighters are less maneuverable, but hit like freight trains, while Fighters tend to be more agile than any of the other craft.”

A well-balanced team of these classes all performing their duties would surely beat out a shoddy team of random classes trying to perform outside of their abilities.

An interesting bit is brought up in the article is the differences in tiers of aircraft.

“…the more high-class your plane is, the tougher it is to execute a sharp turn. As such, some of the best World of Warplanes players I went up against weren’t actually using Tier 10 craft (the highest tier), but they mopped the floor with me in Tier 6 and 7.”

Seeing as how a better plane doesn’t exactly mean a better score, this adds even more to the fact that World of Warplanes is shaping up to be a very skill-based online multiplayer game.

Success in the game will not be measured by the plane you are flying, but by the player who pilots it.
